Frequently Asked Questions

What is Family Law Mediation?

Mediation is a way to resolve legal disputes without going to court. The parties attempt to negotiate a mutually agreeable settlement with the help of a neutral mediator that is authorized by the court. Chastek Mediation assists with divorce settlement proceedings and the creation of co-parenting plans.

How Much Does Mediation Cost?

Chastek Mediation believes in equal access to justice. We mediate on a sliding scale from $0-$300 per hour depending on both parties income. A sliding scale option means that we will only charge what is deemed an appropriate hourly rate based on your income so that everyone has an affordable option.  Some co-mediation sessions require a different sliding scale and  a retainer fee. Contact us to discuss mediation options and pricing.

Why Choose Mediation?

Most parties choose mediation because of the cost benefit compared to a court trial. The average cost of mediation is $2,000-$8,000 compared to a court trial that can cost $10,000-$15,000, or more. Parties can settle their family law matter without a trial and expensive attorney and court costs. Privacy is another factor in why parties choose mediation; all matters discussed in mediation are confidential and do not become part of a court record.

Do you Charge For a Consultation?
